Causes, dissemination and problems:

Water always forms the basis for the growth of bacteria, yeasts, algae and fungi. Nutrients from water and fuel supply are the breeding ground for the uninhibited growth of these unwanted guests. The 2009 legally required blending of biodiesel with mineral diesel increased the danger of diesel pest exponentially. Due to the often huge number of microorganisms a jelly-like mixture is forming, which clogs pipelines and filters. Motor and heating systems fail due to the lack of fuel supply. Especially on boats and yachts water is omnipresent. Ship tanks are therefore disproportionately often affected. But also rarely used agricultural machinery, motorhomes and other diesel vehicles as well as heating oil tanks in rarely used properties (like holiday homes) are sometimes infested. Here the preventive use of an additive makes sense.
